Inflammation can be a good or bad thing depending on the situation.
On one hand, it is your body's natural way of protecting itself when you are injured or sick.
It can help your body defend itself and stimulate healing.
On the other hand chronic sustained inflammation is linked to an increase risk of diseases like diabeties, heart disease, arthritis, and obesity.
Interestingly, the foods that you eat can affect the inflammation in your body.
The 5 types foods that I have mentioned below are the ones that cause inflammation and are bad especially for people with arthritis
1. Sugar and high fructose corn syrup
Table sugar (surcose) and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) are the two types of added sugar in most part of the Kenyan diet.
Sugar is 50 percent glucose and 50 percent fructose, while high fructose corn syrup is about 45 percent glucose and 55 percent fructose.
One of the reasons that added sugars are harmful is that, they can increase inflammation which can lead to diseases like arthritis.
In one study, mice fed with high surcose diet developed breast cancer that spread to their lungs, partly due to the inflammatory response to sugar.
In another study, inflammatory effects of Omega-3 fatty acids we're impaired on mice fed with a high sugar diet.
2. Artificial trans-fats.
Artificial trans-fats are likely the most unhealthy fats you can eat.
They are created by adding hydrogen to unsaturated fat, which are liquids added to give them stability of a more solid fats.
On Ingredients label, trans-fats often listed as partially hydrogenated oils.
Unlike the natural occuring trans-fats found in diary and meat, artificial trans-fats have shown to cause inflammation and increase the risk of several diseases.
3. Refined carbohydrates
Carbohydrates have got a bad reputation.
However, the truth is that not all carbs are problematic.
Ancient humans consumed high fiber, unprocessed carbs for millennia in the form of grasses, roots, and fruits.
However, eating refined carbohydrates can cause inflammation.
Refined carbohydrates have had most of their fibre removed.
Researchers suggest that the refined carbs in the modern diet may encourage the growth of inflammatory gut bacteria that can increase your risk of obesity and inflammatory bowel disease.
Try to include more healthy foods into your diet and limits all types of foods that are bad for your health.
Have a nice day.
