The finding helps in explanation why diets rich in fruits and vegetables reduce cardiovascular disease and mortality risk. Stressful events such as giving presentation or attending a job interview temporarily increase heart rate and blood pressure.
The research suggest that drinking cocoa in the hours before a stressful events can improve blood flow during the exercise and help restore endothelial function in males aged 45 years and below. The findings are significant for everyday diet, given that the daily dosage administered could be achieved by consuming foods rich in flavanol particularly unprocessed cocoa.
