Government Set To Roll Out Cholera Vaccination Drive In Six Counties

A Cholera Vaccination Program aimed at at least two million people in high-risk areas has been approved by the government.

On Tuesday, President William Ruto presided over a Cabinet meeting at the State House. During the meeting, the Cabinet expressed concern about the number of people killed in Cholera-related attacks in the counties of Nairobi, Murang'a, Kajiado, Garissa, Nakuru, and Uasin Gishu.

320 confirmed cases and four deaths have occurred in Garissa County. The four refugee camps of Hagdera, Ifo, Dagahley, and Saretho host the majority of the cases.

Ahmenasir Omar, Garissa County Health CEC, stated: The majority of cases remain within the refugee camps, but they have also spread to the host community.Several of our subcounties are currently affected.

For his part, County Commissioner Boaz Cherutich stated: We have been informed by UNICEF and the Kenya Red Cross that they will collaborate closely.

Because we have the officer in charge of nutrition here, we will use health facilities and dispensaries to reach children under the age of five because they are most at risk.
