Restructuring NHIF to NSHIF (National Social Health Insurance Fund) Towards Universal Health Coverage

The Cabinet Secretary of Health, Dr. Nakhumicha S. Wafula, met with the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) and the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to discuss the ongoing restructuring of NHIF to the National Social Health Insurance Fund (NSHIF). The meeting aimed to explore how the restructuring would benefit Kenyans in accessing quality and affordable healthcare, as envisioned in the Kenya Kwanza manifesto.

During the meeting, government officials and NHIF management outlined plans to expand the services covered and the network of healthcare providers, while increasing efficiency and transparency. The FKE leadership expressed their support for the government's efforts, emphasizing the importance of private sector involvement in the process. They also suggested measures to ensure adequate representation for employers and employees in the new NSHIF governance structure.
