Medicine and surgery has grown over the years to be at a level where it cannot be paralleled to any time in history.

This has necessitated the donation and successful organ transplants across the world and especially here in Kenya at the many available private and public hospitals like Kenyatta National Hospital.

You can have a kidney replaced or a cornea depending on the ailment that you are suffering from.

So, below are some of the costs that will be incurred in case of an organ transplant:

Cornea Transplant

Cornea transplants are now done in Kenyan Hospitals but they are found to be relatively very expensive and many patients prefer going abroad.

There are only two eye banks in Kenya and a cornea, usually sourced from Asia or America, will cost one between 300,000 to 500,000 Kenya shillings for the cornea alone before surgery.

Kidney Transplant

Kidney failure is one of the most serious health conditions in the country that is affecting thousands.

The waiting list for a kidney transplant is usually long and tedious but if one is lucky to get it, they live a long and healthy life.

With 300,000 Kenya shillings, a successful kidney transplant can be done at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

However, this cost is pumped up to five times if one travels to India for the operation.

Liver Transplant

Abroad, projections of a liver transplant are said to be between 7 to 10 million Kenya Shillings.

However, at the Kenyatta National Hospital, this procedure is not as cheap either as projections put the cost at 1 and three million Kenya shillings.

Kenyatta National Hospital is one of the best Hospitals in East and Central Africa.
