President Uhuru Kenyatta and First lady have today launched East Africa’s first public integrated molecular imaging center (IMIC) at the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital (KUTTRH) as part of the UHC pillar of the Big Four agenda.
“The ultra-modern IMIC is the first of its kind in Kenya and the region, and was developed as part of Govt efforts to expand access to cancer treatment in the country,” read a statement by the president.
It has a capacity of hosting up to 100 patients plus their families. While speaking at the launch, Kenyatta said the project is a response to the rising cases of cancer in the Kenya. Screening and treatment will be done at the facility.
IMIC is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to offer comprehensive cancer management services.
In separate event today, Kenyatta also unveiled a 150 bed capacity military hospital at Kahawa Garisson in Kiambu County in commemoration of this year’s KDF day.
