Lusaka to decongest public hospitals through Public-Private Partnership

Private -public partnership is the way to decongest public hospitals and achieve universal health coverage, Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka has said.

Speaking today during a meeting with Amref Health Africa officials, Lusaka said such partnerships will boost primary health care starting from the grass roots .

The governor further assured Amref of his commitment towards engaging them in a partnership program that will work as model for emulation by other counties and countries in Africa.

This comes amid the county government commitment in decongesting county referral facilities as part of the county’s UHC Grande road map as envisioned in his manifesto.

He emphasized on Public Participation as an important component for co-creation at the grassroots level, in line with the bottom up approach.

As a next step Governor Lusaka has committed to set up a PPP Technical Committe that will continue the PPP co-creation talks with Amref Health Africa and it’s Global country Office in the Netherlands.

The Partnership for primary care (P4PC) model seeks to strengthen primary care in a holistic approach that will enhance the quality of healthcare services across all the 45 wards in Bungoma county.

The P4PC model was piloted in Makueni in 2018, and Bungoma becomes the 3rd county (after Makueni and Migori) that Amref is engaging with a goal of scaling up the initiative.
