The iconic Kisumu Yacht Club has been closed for 14 days following a rise in Covid-19 infections in Kisumu County in the last few days. Kisumu has been topping the chart of counties with new infections with the landing of the Indian variant.
The Yacht Club says many hospitals in Kisumu are full of Covid-19 patients. “Many of our Club Members with Covid-19 are in isolation. Kisumu has become the new epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Despite the Updates of COVID-19 positive cases in the past 24 hours by ministry of health indicating that Kisumu had registered zero cases. Not even one positive case was detected in Kisumu in the past 24 hours. You have to see it to believe it.
Dr. Joel Lutomiah was fired from his KEMRI post in April 2020 for what the Minister for Health said "failure to provide COVID-19 results on time." If the zero cases in Kisumu is attributed to delay in relaying of COVID results, we want to see the Minister act with speed.
The rise in Covid-19 cases is hitting the roof in Kisumu, Siaya and Busia. Unfortunately, this is the time when matatu operators no longer adhere to the MOH guidelines and bribe the police at roadblocks to flout these rules.
