Reasons Why You Should Take A Hot Shower Or Bath

Lowers blood sugar

Taking a hot bath or shower may be just what you need to lower your blood sugar and burn calories. A recent study done by Loughborough University investigated the effect that a hot bath has on blood sugar control which is a an essential measure of metabolic fitness and also on energy that is expended which is the number of calories burned. The found that bathing resulted in about as many calories being burned as a half-hour walk.

Better sleep

Hot water helps in relaxing the body and better prepares us for falling asleep. When your body is tense and enters a warm bath, the hot water increases the body temperature and relaxes the body's muscles. Relaxing the muscles not only soothes us physically but also mentally.

Lowers blood pressure

Studies conducted have shown that soaking in a hot bath greatly lowers your blood pressure. This is a great system for people with heart conditions and even people who don’t have any heart conditions. However, it is important to first consult your doctor if you do have a heart condition because a hot bath could also raise the rate of your heartbeat.

Relieves muscle tension

Hot showers aid in relieving tension and soothing stiff muscles. If you have a powerful shower head ,that even works better. Allow the hot water work like a mini massage on your neck, shoulders and back.

Enhances cleaner and healthier skin

A good soak in hot water, be it a bath or shower is effective in opening up the pores in our skin. If the water happens to be clean, then it can wash some of the dirt and toxins from our skin and result is fresher and cleaner skin.

Moisturizes our skin

We may not like the wrinkled skin we get after a hot bath, but it actually has a good effect on it. The warm water leaves the skin moist for longer and prevents it from drying up and getting those little cracks that often appear when it's dry.

Improves blood circulation

Showering or bathing in hot water is a kind of an exercise for your body's blood vessels. This is because water tend to create physical pressure on the body and so it increases our heart's capacity. When our bodies are inside the water, the heart works stronger and faster making it very good for the heart.

Helps in relieving cold/flu symptoms

A hot shower also acts as a natural decongestant in relieving cold symptoms because the hot steam moisturizes nasal passages. Taking daily 10-15 minute hot-soak-break is really helpful in making you feel better while your body is trying to get better.

Reduces headaches

The types of headaches that we tend to experience are mainly caused by the narrowing of blood vessels in the head. The positive effect of the hot water on our blood vessels can be used in alleviating the pressure on those blood vessels and cure our headaches.
