PEPTIC ULCER DISEASE (PUD)
Peptic ulcer disease is a major cause of abdominal pains.
✍️Some people will experience abdominal(stomach) pains when hungry and some few minutes after eating.

DEFINITION OF PEPTIC ULCERS
A peptic ulcer is an ulcer of the mucosa adjacent to an acid bearing area, mostly occurs in the stomach, proximal Duodenum or oesophagus.
CAUSES
Only 2 causes..
1.H.pylori
It damages gastric epithelial cells, reducing the effectiveness of gastric mucus which protects the lining.
2.Nsaids( prolonged use )
This are majorly painkillers, frequent use of some nsaids predispose one to ulcers namely:
Brufen, aspirin etc
Others causes
Stressful conditions that may cause peptic ulcer disease include burns, central nervous system (CNS) trauma, surgery, and severe medical illness. Serious systemic illness, sepsis, hypotension, respiratory failure.
Symptoms
1.Abdominal pain / epigastric pain
2.Bloating and abdominal fullness
3.Loss of appetite
4.Loss of weight
5.Nausea and copious vomiting
6.Water brush-hypersalivation
7. Heartburn
CLINICAL FEATURES.
Burning epigastric pain is the most common presenting symptom.
Types of Ulcers
DUODENAL ULCERS - one experiences pain when hungry, the pain wakes you up at night and subsides after eating.
GASTRIC ULCERS - pain persists few minutes after eating, this people will avoid eating.
OESOPHAGEAL ULCERS
Complications
PERFORATION or PAINLESS
HEMORRHAGE
