Why tooth aches and sensitivity can alter the quality of life of a person

Tooth aches are pain that is sharp,throbbing and constant around a tooth that can be caused by tooth decay, abscessed tooth,a damaged filling,grinding teeth,infected gums.


Symptoms of tooth aches may include

*Tooth pain that is sharp and throbbing.

*Swelling around the tooth.

*Fever or headache.

*Pus or drainage from the infected tooth. Infections of the tooth or teeth can be prevented by

*Cleansing the teeth regularly with fluoride toothpaste.


*Rinsing the mouth often with an antiseptic mouthwash.

*Decreasing or avoiding sugary foods.

Tooth sensitivity is caused by a worn out enamel or exposed tooth root and can also be a sign of a damaged cementum.The enamel is the thin outer covering of the tooth.

The cementum is the thin layer of hard dental tissue that covers the root of a tooth.

The root is the part of the tooth that extends into the bone and holds the tooth in place.It descends below the gum line into the jaw and is covered by a thin layer of bone and are inserted into sockets in the bone of the jaw.


Tooth sensitivity can also be caused by other factors such as cavities,a cracked or chipped tooth,a worn out filling,gum disease,vigorous brushing of the teeth that wears out the enamel.

*Biting a hard object.

Symptoms of tooth sensitivity may include

*Discomfort after eating something hot or cold.

*Pain when brushing or flossing.

*Pain when eating or chewing.

*Fever and headache.

*Redness and swelling of the gums.

*Receding gums.

Tooth sensitivity can be a serious problem to an individual as it can alter or hinder their quality of life and can cause complications such as cavities,electrolyte imbalances,tooth abscess,tooth loss,spread of infection.
