A total of 1,867 Covid-19 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, Health Ministry has said.
Kagwe said out of the hospital admissions, 135 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 90 of whom are on ventilatory support, 43 on supplemental oxygen and two are under observation.
He said another 780 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 716 of them in general wards and 64 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
This comes as 1,001 people tested positive for the disease, from a sample size of 9,065 tested in the last 24 hours with a positivity rate of 11 per cent.
From the new cases 988 are Kenyans while 13 are foreigners with 504 being males and 497 females.
The youngest is a four-month-old baby while the oldest is 110 years.
This brings the total number of confirmed positive cases to 238,852 and cumulative tests done so far to 2,397,923 since the first case was reported in the country in March 2020.
“Today 1,155 patients have recovered from the disease with 1,001 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 154 are from various health facilities countrywide,” Kagwe said.
The CS said total recoveries now stand at 226,037 of whom 183,234 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 42,803 are from various health facilities countrywide.
“Sadly, 11 patients have succumbed to the disease, one of them in the last 24 hours while 10 are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in the months of August and September 2021,” Kagwe said adding, “Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of those who have lost their loved ones.”
This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 4,757.
With regards to vaccination, the CS said as of September 2, 2021, a total of 2,809,389 vaccines have been administered across the country.
Of these, total first doses are 2,020,009 while second doses are 809,380.
Kagwe said the uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 40.1 per cent with the majority being males at 55per cent while females are at 45per cent.
He said the proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 2.97 per cent.
Kagwe said generally, some 242,784 people had taken up the second dose compared to 240,649 aged 58 years and above.
Some 134,772 health workers, 123,265 teachers and 67,910 security officers have also taken up the second jab.
