New Twist: Concerns Raised Over the Safety of Newly Dispatched HIV Drugs

HIV patients breathed a sigh of relief after Kenya Medical Supplies Authority dispatched HIV Drugs worth Ksh 1.2billion to 31 counties.

However, concerns have been raised over the drugs' safety after it was observed that some of them had not been sealed. According to Sunday Nation, some hospitals dotted in the various counties across the country are opening the containers emboding the drugs and issuing them to patients either in a brown envelope or in polythene papers.

Reportedly, some hospitals are directing patients to carry with them containers to the hospital in order to be issued with the drugs, increasing the chance of drug contamination.

It is worth noting that HIV drugs manufacturers have now resorted to packing the drugs in bottles each consisting of 90 packs which are designed to serve the patients for three months.

initially, the manufacturers only packed 30 drugs in each bottle, designed to serve the patients for only one month, forcing them to visit healthcare centres every other month to receive the drugs.
