Kisumu Records Highest Number of Covid-19 Cases a Day After Raila's Visit Over Madaraka Celebrations

Worrying news have been reported today in Kisumu after the country reported the highest number of Coronavirus cases, few days before the governor leads the residents in hosting this year's Madaraka Day celebrations.

An update by the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Health Mutahi Kagwe shows that Kisumu topped the list of today's cases by recording 110 new cases far ahead of Kericho with 37, Siaya with 33, Nairobi with 31 and Busia with 28.

This brief comes a day after The ODM aprty leader attracted backlash from citizens and leaders across the country by convening a crowd to address them concerning the Building Bridges Initiative, which he termed as a 'brief hello.'

Today's surge in cases brings the total confirmed cases across the country to 168,925, with an increase in positivity rate of 10.3 per cent. This comes after 382 people tested positive for the disease from a sample size of 3,719 within the last 24 hours.

Few days ago, the Ministry pointed Nyanza and Western counties as a region of concern following the outbreak of the Indian variant which has devastating effects in counties reported.

The current situation in Kisumu has witnessed increased calls by citizens to suspend the celebrations from taking place in Kisumu and choose another county, or State House where some of the national functions were conducted.
