Brazil legend Pele has been transferred to hospital for palliative care after he stopped responding to chemotherapy for colon cancer, according to reports in Brazil.
The 82-year-old was admitted to the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo on Tuesday for a routine monthly check-up to re-evaluate his cancer treatment.
Pele's daughter Kely Nascimento, who is currently in Qatar for the 2022 tournament, insisted on Instagram that her father's return to hospital was "not an emergency".
On Thursday, it was reported that Pele suffered a heart attack and swelling throughout the body, but his condition is stable.
Pele took to social media to thank them for their support, posting on Instagram: “It's always nice to get good messages like this. Thank you to Qatar for this award, and to everyone who is sending me good vibes.”
However, the Brazilian news magazine Folha de S Paulo reports that Pele's chemotherapy has been suspended, and that the legendary legend has now received end-of-life care.
