In bid to ensure many people access Covid-19 vaccine, Busia county vaccination team on Sunday visited three churches in Butula Sub County where a total of 122 christians were administered with the jab.
The Butula Sub County in-charge of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) Zipporah Kerubo said through the Covid-19 outreaches they have been able to reach more residents experiencing challenges in accessing vaccination sites.
“We managed to visit Zion Temple Global Ministries Bumala, Butunyi and Bumala Catholic Parishes on Sunday 26, 2021 where we vaccinated a total of 122 persons,” she said.
The medic added that vaccines including Moderna and Astra Zeneca are available across the Sub County.
The exercise which has been extended to churches and market areas targets locals who have not been able to access designated health facilities.
She further encouraged residents to ensure they adhere to the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health including those vaccinated.
Speaking at the Zion Temple Global Ministries Bumala, Rev. Pastor Winston Mbanda stressed the need for locals to take vaccination exercise seriously, as the County Government intensifies its effort to increase the number of those vaccinated.
“The vaccine is part of the preventive measures against the virus to help open up the economy. We encourage people especially those in social gatherings to ensure they get vaccinated against the disease,” Mr Mbanda who is also the Director of Communication and Publicity at the County.
St Peter's Bumala Catholic Parish Priest Kizito Mang’eni said: “We are happy that a good number of our Christians have been vaccinated against Covid-19. We believe that it is the best way forward to strengthen the fight against the pandemic."
His remarks were echoed by the Chairperson of the Busia County Elders Council, Mr. George Wesonga who expressed gratitude to the County leadership for bringing the vaccines closer to the locals.
“Its quite encouraging considering that many people have not been able to travel to the vaccination centres to access the jab. I want to appeal to residents especially the elderly and the youth to take advantage of the available opportunity to protect themselves,” said Wesonga.
