6 Benefits Of Drinking Water

You probably know that it's important to drink plenty of fluids when the temperatures soar outside. But staying hydrated is a daily necessity, no matter what the thermometer reads. Unfortunately, many of us aren't getting enough to drink, especially older adults.

"Older people don't sense thirst as much as they did when they were younger. That could be a problem if they are on a medication that may cause fluid loss, such as a diuretic," says Doctor Julian, a kidney specialist and an associate professor of medicine at Havard Medical School.

Around 60 per cent of the body is made up of water, and around 71 per cent of the earth's surface is covered by water.

Water keeps every system in the body functioning properly. Here are some reasons our body needs water:

1.It lubricates the joints

Cartilage, found in joints and the disks of the spine contains around 80 per cent water. Long-term dehydration can reduce the joint's shock-absorbing ability, leading to joint pain.

2.It boosts skin health and beauty

With dehydration, the skin can become more vulnerable to skin disorders and premature wrinkling.

3.It flushes body waste

Water is required in the process of sweating and removal of urine and faeces.

4.It helps maintain blood pressure

A lack of water can cause blood to become thicker, increasing blood pressure.

5.Makes minerals and nutrients accessible

Minerals and nutrients dissolve in water, which makes it possible for them to reach different parts of the body.

6.It prevents kidney damage

The kidneys regulate fluid in the body. Insufficient water can cause kidney stones and other problems.
