Anna Duba Kenyan Recognised Globally in Nurses Awards

A kenyan nurse Anna Qabale Duba who works at Marsabit County Referral hospital. Yesterday she won Aster Guardian Global Nursing Awards for endorsing education and campaigning against cultural practices like Female Genital Mutilation in her community.

Nurse awards was launched in 2021 and received 24,000 nominations from nurses allover the globe. Nana who is a nurse in Marsabit County her home was among the 9 nurses globally selected by the jury for extending their work for humanitarian care in their respective communities.

Anna Duba won USD 250,000 equivalent to Kenyan Shillings 29 million at an awards held in Dubai to commemorate International Nurses Day. Other eight of 9 finalist got USD 5,000 which is equal to Ksh 580,000.

Anna Duba has built a school at her home in Marsabit where girls have been attending sessions on FGM and using her own money to fund the teachings. In her interview in Dubai she said that she would not expect to be recognised in global awards like that.
