Governor Wangamati registers at Bungoma Hospital before he receives COVID vaccination, one must give consent before being injected, source files.
Speaking during the rollout at Bungoma County referral hospital, Wangamati urged the frontline government workers to take up the vaccine positively and protect themselves against the pandemic.
"I urge all of them to take up this vaccination, it has been proven and internationally approved by experts," he said.
Bungoma County CECM for health Anthony Walela said the first consignment from the national government consisted of 6,000 doses which will be issued to medical practitioners, teacher fraternities, security teams and prisons.
"This is just the beginning but the national government has committed itself to deliver 24,000 more doses to continue vaccinating our people, the vaccine is repeated after a fortnight to biff up a generation of immunity against the virus," he said.
Health Chief officer Patrick Wandili applauded the medical staff for their relentless efforts in serving Covid patients and asked them to maintain the pace even as the vaccine jets in .
Doctor Johnstone Akatu assured those who look forward to receiving the vaccine that doctors have been trained and there is no cause for alarm pertaining administration of the drug.
"We took our medical staff to Nairobi and they have been adequately trained. The drug has also been confirmed as effective," he said.
Also in attendance at the rollout were KNUT, KUPPET, KEBSHA officials and county security teams who also received the vaccine.
Governor Wangamati joins the list of six other Governors who have led their staff in receiving the vaccine. AstraZeneca vaccine is a product of AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals Industry which manufactures the lion's share of drugs in the world.
