Looming Border Tussle Between Kenya and Uganda as Museveni Makes the Following Crucial Announcement

The national government of Kenya has reasons to prepare for a possible closure of its borders as COVID-19, which seem to be renewing itself in the country, has overwhelmed neighboring Uganda forcing government to make critical adjustments.

Sources close to Ugandan authorities has revealed that the virus has continued to wreak havoc in the East African country, forcing the national government to close all learning institutions with immediate effect.

In a public speech delivered by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Sunday night, the head of state has directed closure of learning institutions for at least the next 45 days effective today, Monday 7.

In his address, the president revealed that the move is aimed to help reduce the surging cases of COVID-19 in the country.

The president as quoted by The Star said that the country was concerned with the worrying trend of the virus in the country which has threatened exhaustion of available medical facilities and supplies to deal with the situation.

Among the supplies that are running shot as per the head of state includes bed space and oxygen supplies in various hospitals.

Yoweri further directed that all teachers to undergo a mandatory Coronavirus jab before they are accepted in schools.

Among other activities suspended indefinitely include communal worship. Social gatherings are strictly to have not more than 20 people in attendance.

The country has so far recorded a total of 52,929 patients with 374 deaths and 43,487 recoveries by Sunday 6.

Kenya on the other hand is fighting to contain the new Indian COVID-19 variant that is already claiming victims especially in Nyanza province where it was first reported. It should also be noted that Kenya borders Uganda from this region.
