Medication is good because it helps to cure different ailments but there are drugs that you can take for too long that will affect your memory. This can be caused by a particular drug or interactions of drugs. could be as a result of a particular drug or drug interaction with another.

In this article, I will share with you the medicines that, if taken in excess, can cause memory loss.

High Cholesterol-lowering drugs.

High cholesterol levels is bad for the body since it causes the arteries in the body to harden, raising the risk of heart disease. To avoid this, people use cholesterol-lowering medicines (statins).While statins reduce dangerous cholesterol levels in the blood, they can also reduce amounts in the brain, which are necessary for nerve cell connections to form.

Pain relievers Medications

People who have persistent headaches and backaches, and also patients who have pain in the body or recovering from surgery,accidents can take pain relievers to help the ease the pain.

Pain reliever medications can affect memory because they inhibit pain signals by not reaching the brain.They can affect you both in long and short-term memory.

Anti Stress drugs

These are drugs that are used to treat anxiety symptoms such as stress, depression and insonmia.Anti-anxiety drugs decrease activity in brain areas involved in memory transfer from short to long term.

Anti-seizure drugs

These drugs are commonly used to prevent strokes, but they can also be used to treat nerve pain, bipolar illness, and mood disorders.They work by decreasing the central nervous system's seizure-inducing impulses. However, they do reduce memory-related signals which may lead to abnormal memory functioning.


Antidepressants are drugs that can help with depression, social anxiety disorder, anxiety disorders, seasonal affective disorder, dysthymia, or mild persistent depression, among other things. This drugs can cause low memory and this is because the drugs stop serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain, from working properly.

High Blood Pressure drugs

Beta-blockers are routinely prescribed to persons with high blood pressure to help them lower their heart rate and blood pressure. Side effects include chest pains, abnormal heart rhythms, headaches, and some types of glaucoma. Because they hinder chemical messengers like norepinephrine and epinephrine from reaching the brain, they have this effect.
