'Deal With Covid-19 Scientifically' More Details Emerge Concerning Coronavirus Situation in Tanzania

A Former Minister in Tanzanian Government, Professor Mark Mwandosya and Nzega Rural MP, Dr Khamis Kigwangalla have called on the Government to fight against the spread of Covid-19 in a scientific manner. 

The officials have been quoted on several occasions talking about the issue where a piece of audio record made rounds in social media. Professor Mwandosya also wrote on his Twitter page testifying how he contracted the disease.

Professor Mwandosya wrote the message on Twitter stating that he had been ill for more than a month and was being treated for COVID-19 disease. He confirmed that he the virus at his village, Lufilyo in Busokelo in Mbeya region. 

According to reports, it was confirmed that Professor Mwandosya, who is a retired leader received medication from various hospitals. In a Twitter message, Professor Mwandosya stated that he was receiving treatment at the Mbeya Regional Referral Hospital. He added that he has also traveled to Nairobi Hospital in Kenya for COVID-19 treatment. He didn't forget to thank the doctors and nurses who attended to him in these hospitals. 

“This is my testimony that the coronavirus has already spread here in Tanzania. With our new President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, we are hoping that the government will take adequate measures in fight against spread of coronavirus in our country." stated Professor Mwandosya.

The former minister called upon the top leadership led by President Samia and her Vice President, Dr Philip Mpango together with President of Zanzibar, Dr Hussein Mwinyi to be guided by science in managing the disease.

Dr Kigwangalla in a statement to the Medical Association of Tanzania (MAT), says that it is the responsibility of the Medical Association to speak out so that the Government can impose Covid-19 measures such as research and also revert the restrictions at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) and follow other professional ways to combat the disease.

However, yesterday, the MNH issued a clarification statement on Kigwangalla's statement stating that Covid-19 is a new disease to which no one has the right response yet. The report stated that there have been rumors that traditional remedies, including smoking, are helpful in Covid-19 therapy which is a myth.
