Ugandan heads say that more than 800 people and an unidentified number of clients from several companies in the Kampala Metropolitan area received fake Covid-19 jabs.The report followed release of the test results for samples taken from the batch of vaccines.
The director of the State House health monitoring Unit, Dr. Warren Naamara, told Daily Monitor that the suspects involved including a doctor currently on the run, deceived several people and companies.
He said that they were injected fakes jabs between 15th May and July 17th.
Dr. Naamara said on Monday that a number of suspected fake Covid-19 vaccine vials with the legit ones were sent to the Directorate of Government Analytical Laboratory in Wadengenya and the National Drug Authority (NDA) for analysis.
The Serum Institute of India confirmed that the set in question was never supplied in Uganda and that the details entailed in the product were counterfeit.The Government Analytical Laboratory also confirmed that the seized vaccines were not similar to the legit vials.
"The fake vaccines were more of water than anything else, from the chemical contents analyzed," said Dr. Naamara.
He noted, however, that the population of people who received the fake jabs were not poisoned or in any form of danger.
"All persons and cooperate companies vaccinated at a fee, especially within the premises of work by the suspect still at large, are advised to get a free Covid-19 jab at Ministry of Health-approved vaccination centers," he said.
The director also said that the should continue to undergo vaccination at Kiswa Health Center IV because the forgery occurred outside the facility.State amHouse detectives have so far arrested two nurses rmfrom Nakawa Kampala, who were accused of vaccinating people with the wrong vaccine.
