Nakuru county has been identified as one of the counties in Kenya to roll out the use of Paediatric Dolutegravir ( DTG)10mg-an optimization drug in management of HIV in children.The county said the introduction of DTG will be implemented in partnership between the county government,NASCOP and USAID Tujege Jamii.
They said the department of Health has today embarked on a two day training for over 30 healthcare workers on the introduction of DTG who will be trainers in the 11 Sub counties. They said the roll out comes after the launch of DTG by the ministry of health,National AIDS and STIs control program-NASCOP.
The county said HIV prevalence in children has been on the rise and among the population of childrenvliving with HIV,only 64 percent are virally suppressed and thus calls for more awareness on the uptake of drugs. They said the county targets to reach 95 percent viral load suppression among the population living with HIV.
