National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) is a state parastatal that was established in 1966 as a department under the Ministry of Health.

The NHIF principles of action and guidelines principles are reviewed with time to accommodate the changing healthcare needs of the Kenyan population, employment and restructuring in the health sector.

NHIF is mandated to ensure the provision of medical insurance cover to All it's members and their declared dependants including spouse and children. This has made it easier for people to access medical facilities while using the NHIF card to cater for the hospital bills.

NHIF through their social media support team provided a statement in which one can be able to add their adopted child/children as their dependants on the NHIF Supa Cover.

It is now easier to add dependants to your NHIF Supa Cover by following simple steps.

First you need to attach a copy of your National Identification followed by documents showing that you have legally adopted the child/children.

You must have a letter from the children's department as a proof that the child has been adopted.

You can always check your NHIF Status or get NHIF details by sending a text message with the format [ID {space} Your ID Number] for example (ID 12345678) to 1550.

You can also check your NHIF Status and NHIF details by dialing using USSD code *155# via Safaricom simcard on your phone.

You can also get your NHIF details or check status through the use of My NHIF App which can be downloaded from Google Play or App Store or on Online Self-care platform from this link; https://nhifcare.co.ke/Otp.html
