Corona virus is feared to have come in a different third wave owing to the fact that there has been a surge in the number of patients with Corona virus in Kenya. Corona virus Patients especially the elderly and the immuno- compromised experience severe complications of the virus difficulty in breathing which warrants an intensive care unit charge. Such patients end up succumbing if proper ICU care is not met.
The government announced since the third wave struck that there are a few ICU Bed in the country which are not occupied. The cost of securing an ICU bed is usually very high and many average Citizens cannot afford. According to a letter by the Kenya Medical and dentists board, the price ranges of booking ICU Beds in Major Nairobi Hospitals is between kes 130,000 and kes 650,000. The highest paid deposit is asked by MP Shah Hospital which is a private hospital.
As also indicated in the letter shown below, it is evident that almost all the major hospitals have their ICU Beds full and only Nairobi West Hospital has 23 beds remaining.
