The president said the zarina Mirale surgical day care center the center for kidney disease and organ transplantation and Histocompability and Immunogenetics laboratory(HLA lab) will benefit the entire East african region in the management of kidney diseases.
The center for kidney disease and organ transplantation and the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics laboratory (HAL lab),is aimed at delivering surgeries that do not require hospitalization before and after operations.
The center's modern laboratory, the first of its kind, in East africa, will greatly support organ and tissue transplants by conducting donor and recipient.
This will help facilitate faster management of patients and reduce congestion in our wards here at the hospital by reducing pre and post surgical admissions.
The centers were built by the government in collaboration with development partners and philanthropists led by zorina mirali foundation.
The president said that 80 percent of the long waiting time by patients at the Kenyatta national hospital was caused by lack of theater location against the large number of surgical cases.
The facility at Kenyatta national hospital has to date performed over 200 kidney transplants under this program.
The facility, which features two fully equipped theaters, a 17-bit capacity ward and a resource center with clinics and seminar rooms, has been established at a cost of approximately 200 million shillings.
Patients will only pay 10000ksh per week as the (NHIF) pays only for two sessions.
According to the president, Uhuru kenyatta, kenyans, who have been flying abroad to seek medical services like a kidney transplant at an expensive cost, will no longer have to do so as the services are now closer to home.
