Everybody loves a cup of hot water, especially on a cold evening or a cold morning. It only feels right to warm up your body before going to bed, or going to work. And sometimes there's not enough time to make coffee or tea, so you just opt for hot water. Plus there are all these benefits we are always reminded of, about drinking hot water.
Well, here's what they didn't tell you; drinking hot water has some side effects. Today, I am going to share with you those side effects of drinking hot water, or at least making it a habit to drink hot water.
1. You could get burnt or scalded
This one is obviously a no-brainer. The more you drink hot water, the more your chances are of getting burnt. Hot water can easily scald the lips, the tongue, and the inner lining of the mouth, causing minor burns. This in turn causes blisters or ulcers in the mouth, making it very difficult for you to chew or drink. If you have ever experienced this, you know it is a nightmare. So you might want to check the water's temperature before drinking it. It is better to consume it while warm instead of while hot.
2. It has more contaminants
Most people believe that hot water is pure, like it has no germs and no contaminants. The opposite is actually true. But it applies only to hot water that comes directly from the tap. If the pipes are too old or too rusted, the chances of lead particles mixing with the hot water passing through it are higher. This is because contaminants can mix well in hot water as compared to cold water. And this is very harmful to your health. It is safer when you boil water with a kettle or a cooking pot.
3. It puts pressure on your kidneys
The kidneys have a specialized capillary system that flushes excess water and toxins out of your body. You may think that the hot water that you drink will help to filter the toxins from your system and make your kidneys become cleaner, but you are wrong. Drinking too much hot water will instead put a lot of pressure on the kidneys, by increasing the pace at which it functions.
Drinking hot water causes dehydration, so your kidneys are at risk. Excess amounts of water also increase the workload of the kidneys, thus leading to the overworking of this same. This in turn will lead to poor health of your kidneys.
4. It will disturb your sleep
Who doesn't love a good night's sleep? You know, no disturbances, just resting peacefully till morning. So that you can just wake up refreshed and ready to start your day. if you fantasize about this, you might want to watch how much hot water you drink before going to bed. I know you might have read somewhere that hot water increases your body's metabolism, but you don't have to drink a lot of it.
This will just increase your urge of visiting the toilet at night, to the point where your whole night will be ruined, and you will wake up tired in the morning, due to lack of proper sleep. You don't want that, do you?
5. It causes damage to the internal linings
Like I mentioned earlier, hot water can scald and burn the lips, tongue, and mouth. Now, if it can do this, imagine the damage it can do to the lining of the esophagus and digestive tract. Unimaginable, right? These two are the most affected body organs because they have a sensitive inner lining. They are affected because the temperature of the hot water is higher than the body's temperature, which they are unable to handle.
Those are some of the side effects of drinking hot water. Of course, it is not bad to consume hot water. But you really need to check on how much hot water you drink. Remember, too much of anything is poisonous. Was the article helpful? Feel free to share your thoughts below, like, share and follow my page for more tips.
