A nurse by the name Macharia Munyiri who was working at Nanyuki County Referral Hospital has died of Covid-19 just two weeks after contracting the virus according to a Facebook post by Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN).
“We are devastated by the passing away of our nurse colleague bro,” the union wrote. Munyiri was working in the outpatient section of the health facility.
After contracting coronavirus 14 days ago, he was “treated at Nanyuki County Referral Hospital critical care unit and later transferred to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital for ICU and specialized treatment until yesterday when he went to be with the Lord,” the union wrote.
The nurses’ union reassured family and friends that they are in its prayers as they mourn.
“May God keep his soul in eternal Peace,” the post concluded.
Munyiri joins many other medical workers who have succumbed to the virus even as the government steps up the vaccination exercise.
As of yesterday, 5,175 people Kenyans have died of the virus out of 250,510 confirmed cases. Only 3.6% of the population have been vaccinated in the country.
