The Government targets to vaccinate hundreds of thousands of Pastoralists in the region. Ministry officials who addressed the media, stated that it is a challenge to vaccinate all residents, because most of them are livestock keepers, and therefore move from one place to another in such of water and pasture for their livestock.
Another challenge is also the issue of security, with plenty of cattle rustling activities happening between the Pokot and the Karamoja of neighbouring Uganda. This high levels of insecurity hinders seamless movement of health workers.
The health workers are however undeterred and promise to intensify the vaccination drive. West Pokot Governor, John Lonyang'apuo Krop, assured the Doctors of their security, even as he called on residents of the area to turn up in large numbers and get vaccinated.
