What Healthy Eating Really Does To Your Body

Healthy eating doesn't necessarily mean dieting, it's more of consuming a well balanced diet that fulfills a person's nutritional needs.

A well balanced diet has umpteen benefits that are both exceptional and long term. Therefore, it is vital to comprehend the benefits of healthy eating on our well being.

Not only is a balanced diet essential for provision of energy and nutrients for growth and repair but also in the prevention of long term(chronic) diseases such as heart diseases, stroke, type 2 diabetes and diet-related illnesses like cancer.

A balanced diet generally comprises of food from each of the following food groups;

-Starchy foods such as bread, pasta, rice

-Fruit and vegetables

-Milk and diary foods

-Protein foods such as meat, fish and non-diary sources such as beans and nuts

-Fatty and sugary foods which should however be in small amounts.

-Plenty of fibre and water.

Eating a healthy diet with lots of veggies, fruits, whole grains and a moderate amount of unsaturated fats meat and dairy helps maintain a steady weight hence preventing obesity.

A diet low in fat diary and rich in whole grains, fruits and veggies reduces risk of heart diseases by maintaining blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

High levels of omega-3 fatty acids in oily fish like salmon and trout reduces the risk of heart diseases.

3.Strong bones and teeth

An easy way of preventing the use of dentures in old age is to eat foods rich in calcium. Not only does it strengthen ones bones but also slows down osteoporosis(bone loss) and tooth decay.

Calcium can be found in diary products, sadines, dark green vegetables like kale and calcium fortified foods-soya and cereals.

4. Improves memory and brain health

Healthy eating increases blood flow to the brain hence reduces the risk of brain diseases such as Alzheimer, dementia and cognitive decline.
