The Kenyan government has finally admitted that the true death rate in the country due to COVID-19 is much higher than the recorded data. This is because the recorded deaths are those collected from hospitals, yet there are other deaths that occur in the villages and the bodies are buried without being recorded. This was revealed during the time when the government confessed that the Coronavirus vaccines are being stolen. The confessions were made by both the Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Health Mutahi Kagwe and his Principal Secretary Susan Mochache on Monday. They also stated that the deadly Delta variant is now all over the country, accounting for more than 96% of the recorded cases.
The Principal Secretary also stated that it is due to the lack of pathologists in the rural area that some deaths go unrecorded. They also added that sometimes they receive many death cases from village chiefs but it becomes very difficult to identify the real cause of those deaths.
Separately at Afya House, Mutahi Kagwe noted that some health workers are now stealing the vaccines to give to their friends and families instead of distributing the jabs fairly. Noting that there are some medical facilities that are even charging for the jabs, Kagwe ordered that the vaccines should be given freely to all Kenyans as they are not for business. He also added that every hospital will be required to account for their vaccine distribution and give valid reports every week.
