Fumigation Exercise Kicks Off in Machakos County

Machakos health department has kicked off a mass exercise of fumigation in all health facilities,market places, and bus parks as a mitigation measure of containing the spread of corona virus.

County CEC for Health Dr. Ancent Kituku addressing the press said that they want the public maintain high standards of hygiene and observe social distancing as a way of curtailing the spread of covid-19.

“We have started fumigation process by use of chlorine in the county in all public spaces,tomorrow they will be in Athi River and Mlolongo especially the surfaces in a bid to mitigate against covid-19.

Dr. Kituku said they will do their best to ensure that they disinfect and control the spread of the coronavirus especially.

“We have kicked off disinfection of the hospitals, markets, bus parks and we call upon the concerned parties to cooperate with this exercise in the entire county,” he said.

Dr. Kituku further called for the scaling up of the collective and individual hygiene efforts to enable the county win over the pandemic.

He further appealed the general public not to panic but exercise good hygiene by washing their hands using running water and soap.

Dr. Kituku added that they will continue to sensitize every sector about the  coronavirus as a way of reducing fear and panic.

The Machakos residents applauded the initative noting it will go a long way in combating the spread of the viral infections.

At the same time governor Alfred Mutua said that this was part of the county strategy as Machakos strives to be one step ahead of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The measures we are taking are in support of the national government’s initiatives to ensure our communities are prevented from getting infected with Covid-19.We will continue on this initiative and assure Wananachi that we are alert 24/7 to serve and protect them,”he added.

The governor said that 80 Machakos ambulances placed in all administrative locations and main highways are on duty 24/7 so that they can ferry patients who are in labor or suffering from other ailments.

He added that exposed and uncollected garbage in towns and villages should be burnt in a coordinated manner and garbage collection should be done every day including weekends.
