NHIF is the primary of Health insurance in Kenya. The main mandate is to ensure that anyone with the card get quality and also affordable health services. The National Hospital Insurance Fund is established under the section three of the National Hospital Insurance Fund Act.
For all those who have the card it is a requirement to have the card. If you are self employed having the National Hospital Insurance Fund NHIF is not a must it is voluntary.
How to Apply.
Step 1) Visit the National Hospital Insurance Fund NHIF website. www.nhif.or.ke/
Step 2) Choose if you are employed or self employed.
Step 3) If you are employed employee application form will load and if you are not employed self employed form will load.
Step 4) fill the form details.
Step 5) Attach a copy of your National Identification card, passport photo and finally a marriage certificate if you are married.
Step 6) Click save and after confirming that each an every detail is correct you can now submit.
Step 7) You will now receive details concerning your card on your phone number.
Step 8) After successfully submitting each am every detail for your card to be processed successfully you can now visit any National Hospital Insurance Fund office or any Huduma Centre near you.

Step 2) Select if employed or self employed.
Step 3) Fill the necessary details truthfully.
Step 4) Attach the documents needed. You are always advised to use certified copies.
Step 5) Return the form with documents attached to the National Hospital Insurance Fund office or Huduma Centre.
Step 6) Visit the National Hospital Insurance Fund office or Huduma Centre to successfully complete the whole process.
1) A copy of National Identification card even for the spouse.
2) Colored passport.
3) Original and also copies of birth certificates for the dependants.
4) If employed a copy of employer appointment.
1) A passport photo.
2) Alien Certificate or work permit.
3) If employed a copy of employer appointment.
For foreign students.
1) A photocopy of a valid passport.
2) Colored passport size.
