Governor's Advice on NHIF Cover

Busia Governor, H.E Sospeter Ojaamong has urged residents of Budalangi and Busia at large to enrol for NHIF cover for better access to medical services.

He said the move will facilitate implementation of the National Government's Univesal Health Coverage program.

Addressing residents of Bunyala South Ward at Rukala Health Centre, the Governor revealed that he signed an MOU with Ampath and NHIF on behalf of his adminstration in an event that took place at Port Victoria Sub-County hospital to enable locals benefit from the scheme.

Bunyala was selected for pilot phase with atleast 1,000 individuals registered.

"We had a meeting with Ampath officials in Eldoret last week and agreed to register 1,000 more beneficiaries from Bunyala," he said.

He went on, "I urge our MCAs to allocate more funds to help more people access the cover through NHIF."

The County boss who was accompanied by his Deputy, H.E Moses Mulomi traversed Bunyala South Ward in Bunyala Sub-County for county projects inspection where they visited Khusuna village where the county has acquired a parcel of land for construction of an ECDE Centre.

The team also assessed the progress of Makhoma Poultry park, Lugale Market and Khajula Level 2 health centre.

The Governor revealed his plans to deploy additional health care workers at Khajula Health Centre and additional ECDE teachers at Lugale Primary, construction of a toilet at Lugale Market to operationalise the facility and also planned distribution of mosquito nets across the County.

He then presided over the donation of food stuff, iron sheets and blankets to victims of floods in the ward.

The Deputy Governor encouraged the people of Busia to ensure they get Covid-19 jab once they are released to the county which will be distributed to healthcare facilities across the county.

Area MCA, Hon. Casper Ajuma urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to consider dividing Bunyala South into three wards to enable fare and equitable distribution of resources.

He also disclosed that Sidokho bridge construction will continue as soon as the floods subsides.

Also present was Chief Officer for Lands and Housing Ms. Evelyn Mbingi.
