Top Four Counties With Highest HIV Infection Rates In Kenya Released Today

Kenya is set to Celebrate World HIV day on Thursday this week where they'll mark with sensitisation to the public thorough awareness. The virus affects person's immune by attacking the mechanism responsible for defending the body against diseases.

Today, data provided by health sector revealed that the number of new infections increased by 7.3% last year with new HIV infections ranging between 15-29 years old at 52%. According to a video shared by citizen tv on Twitter, 34,540 new infections were recorded in 2021 with Nairobi county leading With a bulk of infections at 3,828 while Kisumu had 3,118, Homabay recorded 2,696 and Siaya with 2,180.

The sharp increase in the infection rate has been attributed to the low donations from external countries and little internal allocations from both NGOs and government. The funds were meant for sensitition and funding protective gears including purchase of condoms amongst others.
