In the next three years, the government plans to hire 20,000 doctors, nurses, and midwives for county public hospitals.Susan Nakhumincha, the cabinet secretary for health, revealed this in a media interview on Wednesday.
The CS told Business Daily that the move aims to bring the doctor-nurse-midwife ratio in line with World Health Organization recommendations.
She stated that the health workers will be hired if the KSH 21 billion required for the exercise is available.
According to the CS, the practitioners will be assigned to public health institutions in advance of the implementation of universal health coverage later this year.
