Magnesium deficiency is called hypomagnesemia. Deficiency maybe under diagnosed since the obvious signs commonly don't appear until the levels severely slow. Deficiency can vary. They range from inadequate dietary intake to loss of magnesium from the body. The following are some of the symptoms of magnesium deficiency.
Muscle twitches and cramps.
They are signs of magnesium deficiency and in worst cases deficiency may even cause seizures or convulsions. Scientists believe these symptoms are caused by greater flow of calcium into nerve cells which overexcites the muscle nerves. Supplements may help relieve muscle twitches and cramps in individuals with deficiency but are unlikely to reduce symptoms in older adults or people who are not deficient.
Its a disorder characterized by weak bones and increased risk of bone fractures. Factors such as aging, lack of exercise, poor dietary intake of vitamins D and K influence the risk of developing osteoporosis. Deficiency may weaken bones directly but it also lowers the blood levels of calcium, the main building block of bones
Mental health disorder.
It includes apathy, which is characterized by mental numbness or lack of emotion. Severe deficiency may lead to delirium and coma. Deficiency may also promote anxiety. Magnesium supplements may reduce anxiety disorders although the quality of evidence is poor.
Fatigue and muscle weakness.

High blood pressure.
Animal studies show that magnesium deficiency may increase blood pressure which is a strong risk of heart diseases. Several reviews have concluded that magnesium supplements may lower blood pressure especially in adults with high blood pressure.
Magnesium deficiency is sometimes seen in people with severe asthma. Magnesium tends to be Lower in individuals with asthma than in people who do not have the condition. An inhaler with magnesium sulfate is sometimes given to people with severe asthma to help relax and expand the airways.
