'Mursik' not Proved to Cause Throat Cancer, National Cancer Institute CEO Says

Rising cases of throat cancer in Bomet county has raised an alarm and researchers have now embarked on finding the causes . National cancer institute confirmed the worrying trends and it's unusualness .

Fermented milk popularly known as Mursik by locals and hot beverages have been theorized to be the causes but the CEO Alfred Karagu said the reports have not been ascertained but his institution will lead the research to ascertain .

While speaking in Bomet county during a meeting with county health officials , Karagu said the institute was optimistic about a possible solution soon enough . He also revealed that Tenwek mission hospital is part of the researchers, to find a lasting solution to the ailment .

"Tenwek mission hospital is helping us in the research and with the county's involvement through training health workers , we shall get to understand the specific factors causing the disease ," Karugu said .

He further encouraged the county government to continue sensitizing the locals about the disease , like early screening and proper diet .
