Kisumu HIV/AIDS Patients Protest Over the ARV Drugs That They are Being Given for Only One Week

Kenyans living with HIV/AIDS have been suffering of late due to the ARV drugs. Many people have not been getting the drugs the way they used to get them. This was caused by the stalemate between the Kenyan government and USAID which changed the shipment mode of the drugs. The counties which have been adversely affected by the issue of the ARVs are all the counties that are found in Nyanza. This is because the Nyanza region count ies are the ones which are leading with the HIV/AIDS infections. Homabay County is the number one county that is on top of the list.

The people living with HIV/AIDS from Kisumu County, went on strike on Tuesday in the streets. They were demanding for more drugs to be given to them. Nation media group reported the protests and even shared a video. The patients were demanding for drugs that can last them for a longer period of time such as six months.

They are nowadays being given drugs that cannot last them for long. They said that they are nowadays being given medicine for only one week and this according to them is not reasonable at all. This has affected very many patients because some of them get the drugs from very far places and they may not get the fare to visit the health care facilities that they collect their drugs from.

The Ministry of Heath should look into the matter, and give the patients the right doses that they require. Their plea should be heard because it is the ARVs that helps them to boost their immunity.
