New Tanzania President Prioritizes Fight Against Covid-19

The newly inaugurated President of Tanzania Samia Suluhu has today made it clear her intentions to fight the Covid-19 pandemic in the nation following international concerns.

"On the issue of Covid-19, I think I should form a Committee of Experts to look at it professionally and then advise the Government, it should not be silenced or rejected or accepted without professional research," she told the State Officials.

Her predecessor, the Late John Pombe Magufuli had dismissed and downplayed the outbreak of the pandemic saying that it was defeated through divine prayers to the Almighty and opposed the preventive Covid-19 protocols.

Since May last year the Tanzanian Health Ministry had not reported coronavirus cases following the presidential directive.

Over the course of the pandemic, Magufquli had expressed wariness about foreign goods, include COVID vaccines.

President Suluhu's resolve to form a committee has addressed the WHO warnings to the Tanzanian government over the country's "very concerning" COVID situation and the International Organization's incessant request for the nation to take robust actions to tackle the outbreak of the disease in the country.
