Relieve Menstrual Cramps With These Natural Herbs

Menstrual cramps are normal but when the pain deters you from daily activities it should raise a point of concern. While trying to relieve the pain, we should be careful with what we ingest, some drugs can promise quick relief but when something is too good you've got to think twice, because such comes with massive negative side effects.

We therefore opt for natural methods to fix this pain, and the following herbs are used:

Ginger

Ginger is a commonly used herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine because of its ability to warm and treat cold in the body. Ginger is antiflammatory as it blocks excess prostaglandin formation.

Prostaglandins help the uterus contract during menstruation and shed its lining thereby causing the cramps and severe pain.

Ginger therefore helps in reducing the production of prostaglandins and that is how menstrual cramps are relieved.

Bupleurum

Bupleurum is commonly used as a gynecological herb. It works on the liver, which is an essential organ when it comes to menstruation as it is responsible for estrogen metabolism.

Excess estrogen is what often leads to painful cramps and heavier periods. Bupleurum helps to keep the liver function well because it is analgesic ;it reduces pain and fevers. That is how it helps to relieve menstrual cramps.

White Peony

White Peony is another gynecological herb, which helps to nourish the blood and soften the Liver. It is responsible for smooth functioning of the liver. When the liver is healthy then estrogen metabolism is possible and therefore no painful cramps.

White Peony is able to calm muscle spasms. It helps to relax the uterus when it is tearing down during menstruation.

White Peony root is boiled and it's tea is ingested to relieve the pain.

Safflower

Safflower is a flowery plant which increases blood circulation. It also helps to reduce blood blockages in the reproductive organs.

It’s used to relieve menstrual pain and research has also shown that it reduces instances of fibroids. It is mainly used as an oil extract.

Fennel

Fennel is an ancient herb that has been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

It helps in warming the lower abdomen thereby relieving the menstrual pain as it is known that cold causes stagnation in the uterus and thereby causing pain. Fennel seeds are soaked in water and taken as fennel water.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek is a herb native to the Mediterranean region, southern Europe, and western Asia.

Fenugreek seeds have a similar taste to maple syrup. It has been known to reduce painful cramps. It can be soaked in water and taken two to three times in a day.
