Bronchitis is an inflammation of the main airways of the lungs called the bronchi causing them to become irritated and inflammed.It occurs when bacteria,viruses or irritant particles trigger an inflammation of the bronchial tubes. The risk of bronchitis increases if

1.You are a smoker.

2.If the disease runs in your family.

3.If you come into contact with chemical inhalants.

4.Practicing poor hygiene.

5.Premature birth.

6You have a Gastric reflux.

7.You have a Depressed immune system.

A short term inflammation of the bronchi is known as acute bronchitis and is usually triggered by an infection.A long term inflammation of the bronchi is known as chronic bronchitis and is usually caused by a recurrent inflammation of the bronchi.

Viruses known as the respiratory syncytial virus,the rhino virus and the influenza virus are the major causes of bronchitis and are very contagious.

Bronchitis can produce symptoms such as:

1.A cough that is frequent and produces mucus.

2.A lack of energy.

3.A wheezing sound when breathing.

4.Shortness of breath.

5.Loss of appetite.

6.Runny and stuffy nose.

7.Production of sputum which can be yellowish gray or green,clear or white.


9.Headaches and body aches.

10.A feeling of tightness in the chest.

If untreated bronchitis can result in complications such as Congestive heart failure,Myocarditis,Arrhythmia,Acute respiratory distress syndrome,Chronic lung disease.
