Kenya received the first batch of Astra Zeneca Vaccine, with a milestone promise for a better tomorrow following an otherwise difficult year in dealing with the ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 1.02 million doses of the Astra Zeneca-Oxford COVID-19 vaccine, arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, on Wednesday March 3, 2021 as part of the COVAX facility.
The Covid-19 vaccine roll-out has so far been a disaster and betrays the excellent framework adopted in the Health Ministry National Plan. Controversy has marred the process while vaccine shortages are being reported around the world.
Yesterday during the daily coronavirus briefing Dr Mercy Mwangangisaid this about the vaccination rollout: "Kenya is number 7 on the leader board in the World in terms of vaccination in the world… We are proud of what we have done as a govt, as Kenya https://t.co/U5yaTOQpUw"
This was however a distant truth after curious Kenya went online in search for the truth. It turned out that Kenyan was placed 68 vaccinating 1.3 in every 100 citizen.
Many Kenyans voiced their displeasure. Below some Reactions.
Johannes the loyalist wrote: " Uongo itamaliza huyu dame! Amepewa tu speech asome aongeleshe uongo wakenya! Kenya from the attached list is at number 68! https://t.co/8YKmBhD3cs"
Kaya Wesonga remarked: "Ni kama hawajui kuna Google 😂😂😂"
Yano wrote: " Per 100 people, Kenya has only administered 1.3 doses. Hii pang'ang'a angeambia tu Jayden huko statehouse us we are sober and can see through government bullshit. https://t.co/ojA0r9ubt1"
