Bungoma: Sombre Mood as Governor's Mother Is Laid To Rest

Bungoma county governor's mother Selina Wangamati,82, today was given a decent send off an event that was graced by former prime minister and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Mama Selina enjoyed a run of good health much of her life. Mama was fit and many a time, she cycled some 25 km to and from work. It was in 2001 that she was first hospitalized for high blood pressure and medication prescribed to manage her condition. Around the same time, she presented with chest congestion that was diagnosed as asthma and she remained under constant management of Dr. Okello of Nairobi hospitalized until 2007.

In 2018, on consulting Dr. Lagat- a chest specialist at St. Luke's hospital in Eldoret, mama was diagnosed as having chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and placed on treatment and she stabilized.

However, she recently complained to her eldest daughter Catherine of abdominal pains.

Catherine visited her on Friday February 12th, 2021 at her home in Kanduyi and on the following day, took mama to Aga Khan Clinic Bungoma for medical checkup.

The doctor certified mama to be okay, but that she continues with her prescribed medication. On 16th February, 2021 mama Selina went about her chores as normal and did not exhibit any signs of illness or discomfort.

As characteristic of her she passed on peacefully in her sleep in the night if Tuesday 16th February 2021.

Leaders eulogized Selina as a kind leader, an educationist, socialist and a farmer.

 RIP mum
