Helicobacter pylori is a type of bacteria that grows in the stomach and tend to affect the lining of the stomach or the upper part of the small intestines.They are adapted to live in the harsh,acidic environment of the stomach and tend to reduce its acidity to aid their survival.They are mainly caused by contact with contaminated food or water,contact with saliva or body fluids of infected persons.

Unexplained Weight loss,bloating,nausea and vomiting,indigestion,burping,lack of appetite,fever,loss of appetite,dark and sometimes bloody stools are some of the symptoms associated with a helicobacter pylori infection.

Helicobacter pylori is associated with an occurrence of diseases like: Chronic Gastritis,gastric ulcers,gastric adenocarcinoma,lymphoid tissue lymphoma and can also cause a deficiency of essential vitamins and minerals.

Peritontis,perforation,obstruction,internal bleeding and stomach cancer are the complications helicobacter pylori can cause if not treated promptly.

Practising good hygiene like washing your hands before eating food is important in the prevention of helicobacter pylori.
