The co-founder of Microsoft and co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) on 15th Day of November, 2022 visited Makueni County, in a visit that local media outlets were bared from covering, The Tycoon was hosted by Makueni governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior.

Speaking after the visit, governor Mutula Junior revealed that During the visit, they toured Kathonzweni Level 3 hospital where Bill Gates met with medical staff and Community Health Volunteers (CHV). They later toured the Mother and Child Care department at the Wote Hospital.
He further revealed that the County health team presented to Gates some of the key steps taken to improve services, monitor purchase and distribution of health commodities as well as steps the County took to ensure the facilities remained open for immunization even during the Covid -19 pandemic.
Upon conclusion of his visit to the Mother and Child Care Hospital in Wote, Bill Gates planted a commemorative tree outside the hospital to mark the historic visit to the County.
