CS Mutahi Kagwe today's speech while on his work trip in Mombasa revealed that the country might be opened up soon if the positivity rate of Covid_19 disease will continue decreasing. The Covid_19 disease has now been a global concern especially for countries like India which is registering more than 2,000 deaths per day. CS Mutahi Kagwe ordered that effective from Saturday 1st May all flights to and from India will be cancelled. He added that those coming from India will have to be tested and subjected to a 14 days quarantine.
He also revealed that corona virus disease vaccination programme has been a global concern due to the vast spreading of the virus. During the last 24 hours Ministry of Health tested 8498 people out of which 838 people tested positive for Corona virus disease. The cumulative number of Covid_19 infections now stands at 158,326 cases. Also MOH registered 23 deaths pushing the cumulative number of deaths to 2688. A sum of 853,081 people have been vaccinated since the programme started in March.
Good news is that 579 people have recovered within the 24 hours pushing total recoveries to 107,882. Out of 279 recovery cases 293 were from Home Based and Isolation Care whereas 286 were from various health facilities.The positivity rate has reduced to 10% which is five percent above the requirement of MOH to open up the country. President Uhuru ordered the closure of schools in March when Covid_19 infections increased to a higher rate. He also ordered the lockdown of five counties including Nairobi to help curb the spread of Covid_19 disease which was spreading vastly in the counties.
