Facts About Malaria You Should Never Ignore

Malaria has existed for many years and we have lived knowing it exists. The disease is a serious one that can be fatal at times or just mild. The main way in which it is spread is through bites from an infected mosquito.

In this article we will look at some facts about malaria that should not be ignored.

1. Malaria breeds more in the warm climates where atmospheric humidity is very high. If you live in such a place you should be very cautious of the disease.

2. About 90% of the malaria related deaths occur in Africa specifically the sub-saharan region and children under the age of five are the most affected. We are all in this region and should therefore be overly cautious.

3. High fever, chills, flu like symptoms and headache are the main signs and symptoms of malaria. However, they can be treated and the person will be normal from risk of death.

4. Symptoms of malaria begin to manifest themselves in a patient a week to a month after the mosquito bite. The parasite can be dormant in some forms of malaria and the patient may not feel sick for up to 4 years.

5. Pregnant women are more affected by the disease. If a pregnant mother gets infected with the disease, it can be passed to the foetus and this will results to low birth weight reducing the child's chances of survival.

6. Malaria is not contagious and therefore can not be contracted by getting contact with an infected person or sexually.
