How to cook yummy Swahili Mahamri

Despite the fact that it is easy to cook, it is also a food that needs the most common necessities found in any store or market. It is also a popular food especially in the coastal region of Kenya and Tanzania. It is very rare to go through the streets of Swahili and miss a mother sitting outside cooking mahamiri. Yes, and this is the beach pleasure. Whenever you feel hungry it is very easy to find the food on the streets.

REQUIREMENTS 4 cups of wheat flour. 2 tablespoons of Cooking oil . 1 glass of water 6 tablespoons of Coconut flour 1 teaspoon of Cardamon powder 1 tablespoon of yeast. 6 teaspoons sugar.

PREPARATION Put all the necessities in a bowl containing the flour, except water. Then add a little water and mix until the sugar melts. When the sugar has dissolved continue to add water while mixing the flour thouroughly. Mix until the dough thickens. Make sure the dough is not too soft or too hard, be moderate. Continue to knead your dough for about ten minutes.

Cover your dough and leave it for about 10 minutes. Then make small lumps. For this amount of flour I got 6 lumps. You can decide to make your preffered lumps size.

Cover the lumps and leave them for about 1 hour to dry. If you are in a cold place or are in a hurry, turn on the oven for about 5 minutes, turn it off and put your lumps in it to help the steam to expand.

Once the lumps have expanded ,take each one of them and cut 4 times into a triangular shape. Start frying them until they turn to golden-brown colour. You can serve with tea, soda or soup.
